Sombra de la lapa is only 9* North of the equator, however, our homes are built in the shade of the rainforest and are much cooler than to be expected both during the day and the evening. Our master bedroom includes a private patio with jacuzzi tub close by and commanding views of the mysterious rainforest and the gulf.

Sleeps 6-8 Guests on 2 Separate Levels

Our home is exceptional for couples, families and small or large groups. You can entertain and cook on 2 levels with 2 great bathrooms and open patios all around you, as our home has very few walls. Our bedrooms are tastefully decorated with comfy linens and  towels. All 3 bedrooms are screened with fans and reading lights for your comfort. The large guest  room downstairs can be configured to sleep four people by separating the king bed into 2 twins, thus the room can sleep 4 singles , or 3 singles and a double, or a king, with double or 2 twins or any combination of these!  Our home sleeps 6-8 comfortably and is big enough to entertain small – medium size groups.

The third bedroom has a double bed & is air-conditioned and has both a garden & rain forest view. These 2 bedrooms occupy the lower floor of the house, along with a kitchen, living room, full bath, pool, laundry room and gas grill. You are surrounded by wonderful  gardens everywhere you look as there are fabulous views from both levels.  All bedrooms are decorated nicely with  tropical décor and ceiling fans. You are never far from the coffee, a hammock or the pool . Amenities include refrigerator, microwave, oven, full kitchen and all cookware, dishes, glasses, linens & beach towels.  We are artists and our house is an eclectic mix of local textures and details.

Gulf Views and Only 15 min. North of Puerto Jimenez

The views of the rainforest and Gulf are fabulous. Each day the sun rises over Vulcan Baru in Panama and sets over Corcovado National Park .There are several trails leading into the rainforest, and many of our guests hike all day within the reserve and never see the same tree twice. Down by the river you can cover yourself in therapeutic nutrient enriched mud from the river bank. Close your eyes and pretend you are at a fancy day spa. Later throw some ribs or a chicken on the grill and eat by the pool.  Located in the middle of the nature reserve, you will find yourself lost in time with all the amenities. If you’re lucky our internet will be fast enough to squeeze off a few e-mails, however we encourage you to leave the laptops and computers at home. We invite you to join us in the rainforest and enjoy spectacular views of the forest and The Golfo Dulce from our living room & pool.  Our Nature Reserve is very isolated, however you are close enough to run into Puerto Jimenez ( 8 miles/15 min) for tours, dinner and groceries.

Organic Gardens within Our Reserve

Our 2 acres of gardens are filled with exotic tropical flowers and fragrances and our birders, artists and photographers usually spend hours each day exploring the garden surrounding our main home.  We have a fabulous river, over 2 km of walking trails in the rainforest,  hammocks, and a special spring fed  pool down below and in the rainforest.  Out in front of our home, seasonally ,you will find Pineapples, Breadfruit, Yucca, Lemons, Limes, Sugar Cane, Oranges and Bananas. We also grow herbs, medicinal plants and if you are lucky - you can find a fresh Guanabana , or Water apple that the monkeys haven’t eaten yet. All fruits are seasonal, however, You can ask Wilbur (our caretaker)  to help you find bananas, limes, wild Cilantro, Basil and Oregano growing in the garden area year round. Each week Ollie changes the linens and cleans up for you, and Wilbur is available as a guide to show you around the rainforest and river basin.

Close to Beaches and Tours

Located only 5 minutes to the gulf and 20 minute drive to the best beaches. Surfing and Corcovado National Park are also close by.  We are 13 km from Puerto Jimenez where you will find banks, restaurants, groceries, gas stations, and many services.  The road to town is in excellent shape. We do have internet at the house but you need to bring your own laptop- also remember that this is the jungle & things do not work like they do where you are from.  Service is not always reliable but it is good enough for squeeking an e-mail or two out into cyberspace.  If you can, leave the laptops behind & soak up as much nature as you like.   There are also internet café’s in town if you absolutely have to do work requiring a higher speed connection.

We can point you in any direction for any activities and tours .From zip lines, canopy tours, water skiing & tubing on the Golfo Dulce, to swimming with the dolphins and turtles . There is another wild life refuge & orchid farms across the gulf and we recommend your spend the day out on the water meeting our aquatic neighbors.  You will find all kinds of hiking & guided jungle tours, swimming, tree climbing, waterfall rappelling, surfing and kayaking VERY close by.  There are all kinds of things to do while on vacation or you can hang in our hammocks and get lost in your favorite book.
