Our Guanacaste Tree is 60-80 years old and is expected to double in size over its 400+ year life span. Nothing has been passed over in the design. We’re hoping for a good 100 years before we have to re – engineer it.

As the designer and proprietor of this project, Michael H. Cranford worked his way through 5 design revisions over the last 6 months and with the help of Mother Nature herself, Michael & his partner Rebecca have begun cutting and milling the naturally felled trees on our 120 acre private rainforest reserve. We will be working with 3 types of tropical hardwoods Guabillo, Pilon and White Cedar. We will also be using Teak and Bamboo from renewable tree farms in the area and old car parts within the design as well. Not a single rainforest tree will be cut down for our tree house nor will our Guanacaste Tree be compromised in any way. No bolts, no screws or harnesses in or around the tree. In fact the tree will only be used as a balancing pendulum up the middle of the tree. Our tree house will become a symbol for living with nature hoping to inspire mankind to protect and nurture our planet and natural resources. Itinerary will include constructing a 40’ tall circular staircase around the trunk of our Guanacaste Tree and building cabinetry using tropical hardwoods and local joinery techniques. Alejandro will be demonstrating 1000 year old bamboo construction techniques and we will be installing the roofing components and working our way towards the 4th level of the home 50’ up into the canopy. This workshop includes international airfare (from US only)  along with meals, Costa Rica domestic air, transfers and several tours. Book and pay in full prior to Jan 31st 2008 and receive $100 early bird discount. That’s only $ 2485.00. If you are interested in learning about bamboo, hanging staircases and working with cabinetry this is the workshop for you! The Columbians have been building with bamboo for thousands of years and architect Alejandro Gallego will be demonstrating bamboo joinery and wall and roof support systems. If you have ever had a curiosity about working with bamboo this is a great opportunity to learn from the best. You will have several days for touring and exploring and a few afternoon siestas in the hammocks as well.

Treehouse WorkshopJoin us for our final workshop in 2008 April 18-27th! Itinerary includes constructing the 4th level master bedroom and attaching the roofing material to the bamboo structure. There will be plenty to do to finish up cabinetry, staircases and roofing components to prepare for our Grand Opening on Earth Day. Roberto Knox from Panama will be leading our musical architecture itinerary where we will be constructing musical walls and architectural features throughout the house. These musical architectural features will create music from vibration and wind as it passes through and up into the treehouse.  Help us tune our treehouse for our Grand Earth Day Celebration, followed by a pig roast, zip line fun, and featuring live music by excellent local band “The Insupportables” A Tree House Party not to miss! We will have all day to spend in local town, Puerto Jimenez on Earth day where you will meet some of Costa Rica’s most influential conservation groups that are helping to save the rainforest and diversity in Southern Costa Rica.  This workshop includes international airfare along with meals, Costa Rica domestic air, transfers and several tours. Book and Pay in full, prior to Jan 31st 2008 and receive $100 early bird discount. That’s only $ 2485.00.
